What is Software Piracy ?
Software Piracy is the unauthorized use and distribution of copyrighted software. It could take the form of “cracked” software e.g downloading from certain websites or it could be a breach of the terms of a Software Licence Agreement e.g:
- Use of software in a different territory;
- Use by more users than permitted;
- Use for more number of hours than permitted;
- Sharing software license codes or activation keys;
Software is afforded copyright protection under the Copyright laws and is a criminal offence in most jurisdictions. Copyright owners can also take civil actions against the infringers.
Our Successes
We earned close to USD 2M in incremental revenue from software compliance sales resulting from Insight’s well-implemented program for us in two countries, between 2015 to 2017. In 2016, Insight closed a deal in Indonesia for USD 600K worth of software sales after a successful raid action and negotiations.
Through Insight’s programs for us over the years, we have recognised USD 8M in incremental revenue from software sales across four key Asian countries. Compliance sales made up a significant portion of our total sales revenue and we could not have achieved this without Insight’s unrelenting efforts
Although our products and solutions serve fairly niche industries, Insight has helped us gain revenue of close to USD 1.5M with their effective strategies. In Malaysia, Insight helped us negotiate a settlement with our customer, bringing in incremental revenue of USD 250k
In our very first compliance case in Japan, Insight helped us close a deal worth USD 300K after conducting a company-wide software audit on a customer.
